Are you interested in creating software for the global good? Are you in healthcare and would like to learn more about FHIR? Do you already work with OpenMRS, DHIS2, REDCap, CommCare or R/Rstudio and would like to know how to make it more interoperable?

The goal of this hackathon is to create better ways for these open-source systems to integrate with each other. While the focus will be on FHIR, it is not a strict requirement. And especially if you are working in a lower-resource setting, we want you!

Requirements

Software, apps, programs with a focus on Vaccines or on the Transforming of data.

If focusing on Vaccines, that can include (but not limited to) data capture, data registries, reporting, public health, recommendations and vaccine forecasting.

If focused on transforming data, the goal will be to find more efficient ways of moving information between the above systems, to allow for improved operability and better usage of data collected.

Must use or interface with one of the following systems: OpenMRS, DHIS2, FHIR, CommCare, REDCap, or R/Rstudio.

If using CommCare, REDCap or R/Rstudio, must use FHIR to connect to other open-source systems.

Minimal POC or minimal functionality is required (not solely designs, sorry!)

Some level of open-source availability of code.

Vaccines

Data Transformation

OK

Minimal focus on UI/X. Design does not elevate the solution/idea.

No comments/minimal comments or explanations for running/setting up

Basic data collection about vaccines, no reporting, no easy evaluation method

Offers ways to transform data from one system to another, but doesn’t actually show any

Decent

Some intentionality is put into the UI/X, but the project is difficult to use and not very intuitive.

Basic instructions on how to begin running/setting up, but unable to complete successfully or with great difficulty.

Vaccine data collection, with some ability to report, evaluate or analyze the data for public health, or specific recommendations to provider

Minimal data transformation, one small, very narrow use case

Good

The project is generally well-designed and easy to use, but additional directions are needed to easily navigate it.

Instructions and documentation allow for good understanding on running/setup, but may be lacking some details or require additional research.

Complete data collection with formalized reporting as a dashboard, or ability to provide full vaccine recommendations for an individual patient

Data transformation for moderate to large use case, or multiple small use cases

Wow

Design is clean and visually appealing. The project is very well-organized and anyone can use the application without any additional instructions.

Completely documented, easy to setup, scripts for generation, easy to maintain

Vaccine registry, with ability to capture patient data, report patient data, and ability to forecast vaccinations

Data transformation for multiple moderate to large use cases
